Gadget holder helps keep Bruce busy
CLARENCEFIELD man Bruce Herring is back to litter picking activities with help from retired engineer Bob Wallace.
Bruce suffered a stroke several years ago and as a result uses a wheelchair to get around. Eco-aware Bruce takes part in regular litter picks in the area but due to only having the use of one arm, he was finding it difficult to secure his litter picking tool on his lap when moving around in his wheelchair.
Hoping to help, Bob Wallace from Dumfries-based charity Remap stepped in and created a simple and effective solution to enable Bruce to attach it safely to his wheelchair.
Bruce explained how the simple attachment has been ‘tremendous’ and has made a big difference to his independence, he said: “It’s really helped as sometimes the picker was falling off my lap onto the ground”.
Bruce is reliant on the tool for a number of activities not only litter picking and it is used on a daily basis for things like opening drawers and cleaning windows. His wife, Sheryl, is a volunteer for the Stroke Association, and also welcomed the involvement from Bob.
