A GRETNA family put their best feet forward for a charity walk in Glasgow at the weekend.

Amy and David Hampson and their children David, age 13, and nine-year-old Tallulah completed the 10k walk on Sunday in aid of The Beatson Cancer Charity.

It’s a cause close to their heart after two ‘tough’ years for the family with their Aunty Ann undergoing treatment for mouth cancer, and not long after Amy’s dad, Willie Gray, received a similar diagnosis.

She said: “Throughout it all, the hospitals (DGRI, QEUH and The Beatson) have been absolutely incredible, providing the highest standard of care for both of them.

“But beyond that, the Beatson Charity has gone above and beyond to make everything feel as comfortable and homely as possible.

“They provide a welcoming space for families — a place to sit, chat, play board games, and enjoy a complimentary cuppa and biscuit. They also offer hair and beauty treatments for the patients as a wee boost during some of the hardest days.

“They were so kind and warm to us and the kids during our visits with Dad, and that made all the difference.”

She added: “We just wanted to do our bit to give back and repay the kindness and support they’ve shown us during such a difficult time.”

So they joined thousands of others taking part in Off The Beatson Track to spread awareness and raise funds for people affected by cancer across the west of Scotland.

And Amy described it as ‘a great day’, featuring entertainment, cheerleaders, bagpipers, singers, choirs.

Their combined efforts raised £1370 and the family say they are ‘blown away’ by people’s generosity and say a huge thank you to everyone who supported them.
