DJ Graeme gives up birthday gifts for charity
Graeme McClelland, better known locally as BJ the DJ, raised £1200 for Cystic Fibrosis Research in memory of the late Dylan Hairstains, who passed away as a teen in 2012 because of the illness. DJ Graeme, whose twin children share a the same mum as Dylan, held a big birthday bash in August to celebrate turning 50. But in lieu of gifts he asked his 140 plus guests to make a charitable donation to Cystic Fibrosis Research instead. He said: "I'm very lucky that I'm so healthy and happy. There were not any presents that I wanted or needed so I thought it was much better to raise money for a charity that means a lot to me." The seasoned fundraiser has raised money for other charities in the past but says he always knew that he would dedicate his 50th to Dylan. He said: "I was shocked and overwhelmed to raise £1200 for charity. I've made sure that all the money stays in Scotland, as local as possible. "I am so thankful to all my friends and family for their donations - £1200 is a great amount."
