Club gears up for inaugural beer festival
All money raised will go back to the club, so they can continue offering rugby sessions in Annandale.
First XV captain Ryan Glass has taken the lead in organising the event.
At least 12 beers will be on offer on the day, while entertainment will be provided from a range of individuals and groups.
Ryan said: “Organising the event hasn’t been without its challenges. It has been a steep learning curve for myself and others in the group.
“We have had to contend with the correct licensing for an event of this size, booking entertainment, ticket sales, working with vendors, getting new stock in our own bar and organising the event space.
“Hopefully it will be all worth it and it will be a great community event, with a lot of people coming to support the event and the club.”
Ryan added: “This is the first time attempting an event like this for years. We have hosted a Highland Games competition in the summer but decided this year was time for change and make use of the space we have at Violetbank.” Craft beer will be available at the club bar, while Beers Without Borders will be running the draft bar.
Moore’s Street Food will also be at the event and snacks will be available throughout the day from the club’s Grubber.
Entertainment comes from Annan Town Band, Meg PC, Back 2 Back, Ben Conroy, The Tomorrow, Highland Hustle, Somethin’ Brewin’, Zodiac and Sam Heselwood.
Originally from New Zealand, Sam played rugby up to a semi professional level, and played with Dan Carter, before a severe spinal injury forced him to hang the boots up and pursue a career in music.
Since then he has had a number one single in New Zealand and over 10 million streams online.
There will also be event for kids and craft activities.
Ryan added: “Now the majority of the hard work is done, all that is left to do is ask the town to come and support a local event that will give back to the community and, if a success, become a staple in the town calendar.”
Gates open at 12 pm on Saturday – email [email protected] for more info, or visit the Annan Rugby Facebook page.
