Carer’s payments set to increase

SUPPORT for unpaid carers is to be doubled.

The carer’s allowance supplement, which is received by 2600 people across the region, is to be doubled by the Scottish Government this autumn.

The Carer’s Allowance Supplement (Scotland) Bill passed its third and final stage in the Scottish Parliament, meaning unpaid carers will have their supplement doubled to £462.80.

Commenting, South Scotland MSP Ms Harper said: “Unpaid carers across Dumfries and Galloway and Scotland, go above and beyond to help those in their care.

“Particularly during the pandemic, unpaid carers have gone the extra mile to support those in their care, often in very difficult circumstances. It is only right that their efforts, commitment and personal sacrifice are recognised.”
