THE wet weather failed to dampen the spirits on Friday evening as Halle Goodwin was crowned Queen of the Border. Family, friends, and Riding of the Marches principals and committee descended on the Market Square along with a small crowd which had gathered to celebrate the occasion. Piper Reilly Shearer led the royal party of Halle, her champion Dylan Ringland and the retinue along the High Street and up onto the stage where the new queen was crowned by her mum, Jade, nee MacDonald, who was herself Queen back in 2003. Dylan stood tall as he promised to protect the newly crowned Queen, while members of various community, youth organisations and this year’s principals pledged their allegiance to her. Caroline Sharkey and Georgie Swale both sang on the evening. And Queen Halle was also given a guard of honour from her teammates at Annan Athletic.
