A DUMFRIES man who has cerebral palsy believes his disability is no barrier when it comes to opening up a business.
Ally Crosbie and school pal Daniel Slater opened up their cocktail bar — Grain
Cocktails — last week.
And the popular Dumfries lad — who has been in a wheelchair all his life — hopes he can be an inspiration to others.
He said: “It would be great if I can inspire other people who suffer from cerebral palsy and other conditions to give it a go. There’s no barriers in business, you just have to believe.
“There’s a guy I saw on social media who helps Wayne Lineker at Ocean Beach Club in Ibiza. He’s in a wheelchair but I wouldn’t call him an inspiration as such but he gave me the belief that I could do this.”
Ally and Daniel both have always had dreams of opening up their own unique place in the town and after meeting up for a coffee six months ago at a coffee shop they brainstormed and decided to open Grain Cocktails.
Ally said: “I felt Dumfries needed a wee place with a little different interior and a city vibe. Daniel worked at cocktail bars in Glasgow and he wanted to bring something like that down to Dumfries.
“There’s not been any dramas opening up but it has taken a little longer than we expected to get it the way we wanted.
“We finally opened last week and the place was rammed. It was non-stop but it’s great to see something you worked hard at pay off.
“The Whitesands is quite up and coming with bars, it is definitely becoming a vibe. We’re hoping in the future to be open during the day for coffees.”
