Jardine resigns from Lochar helm

LOCHAR Thistle has announced a change to their manager for the upcoming season.

The South of Scotland champions revealed that current gaffer Chris Jardine reluctantly handed in his resignation and is stepping down from his role at the end of the season due to family commitments.

The Dumfries club has wasted no time in getting a replacement with ex-Dalbeattie Star manager Ritchie Maxwell taking the reigns next campaign.

A club statement read: “Once the club knew of Jardie’s decision, Ritchie was the stand out candidate and after productive talks a deal was reached.

“It was a really difficult decision for Jardie to make as he has brought so much success to the club in the three years that he has been at the helm especially delivering the South of Scotland League Championship this season.

“A pivotal figure both on and off the park, Jardie will leave the club with best wishes and thanks from all at Lochar Thistle.”

Maxwell added: “First I would like to thank the committee for the opportunity to manage Lochar Thistle. This is the club where it all started for me a few years ago and I am delighted to be given this opportunity.

“I have probably taken on one of the hardest jobs in the southern counties following on from the fantastic job that Chris and his back room team have achieved over the last few seasons culminating in becoming league champions this year for the first time in the clubs history.

“I’m delighted that the backroom staff have decided to stay on and I’m sure this will help make the transition a smooth one for the club and players.

“The aim for us this year is to try and continue the growth and success the club has achieved over the past few seasons. I’m confident that the committee, coaching staff, players and myself will give it everything to achieve our targets for the season.”

Meanwhile, the club lost 3-2 in the Potts Cup final to Nithsdale Wanderers last week.

However, Lochar play Newton Stewart in the J Haig Gordon Memorial Trophy at Islecroft Stadium on Saturday with a 2 pm kick off. They then face Dalbeattie Star in the Cree Lodge Cup final on Wednesday at St Mary’s Park (7.30 pm kick off).
