New centre offers a ‘peaceful oasis’

A NEW meditation centre opened in Dumfries this week.

The centre on Castle Street is named ‘Vajrasattva Kadampa Meditation Centre’, and had its grand opening on Tuesday, showcasing its newly refurbished spaces.

Described as a ‘peaceful oasis’ in the heart of the town, there is a purpose built meditation space, a cafe, bookshop and lounge area and an outdoor seating area, as well as a number of residential rooms for those wishing to live in a Buddhist community.

The centre is entirely ran by volunteers and practising modern Buddhists, and will be hosting an open doors day on Saturday for anyone interested in finding out more.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “Learn about meditation and modern Buddhism with a community of people who are all trying to improve the quality of their life, and our world, by improving the quality of their mind.

“Based on the books of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we present these teachings in an accessible manner that can easily be integrated into our modern lives.”
