Group completes challenge in memory of little Sophie

A GROUP of friends and family in Dumfries have helped raise over £7000 for a charity close to their hearts.

Alexandra Dickson and her close ones all managed to run or walk a total of 50km during April. Money raised by them will be be sent to SANDS, which supports families following stillbirth and neonatal deaths.

In May last year, Alexandra and partner Bryan tragically lost their little Sophie two days into the induction process at 39 weeks.

And this month, the group, who have called themselves Sophie’s Striders, have walked and ran in memory of little Sophie.

They decided meet for a special walk on Sunday to celebrate the end of the challenge and the fantastic amount raised – £7619 – the most from a group across the country.

CELEBRATING . . . the group met for a 2km walk around the Crichton

Alexandra said: “It was a special walk for a very special girl and the amazing charity SANDS. Celebrating the end of our 50km running/walking challenge.

“Thank you so much to everyone who came and to all who have donated. It means the world.”

And a spokesman from Sands said: “Congratulations to Alexandra, friends and family for their outstanding efforts in memory of Sophie Martha Gray.

“Thank you for highlighting the importance of the work Sands charity does.

“Fundraising like this is vitally important to allow Sands to carry out the fantastic research to reduce the number of babies dying and provide vital support to bereaved families.

“What an amazing finish to the April challenge of running/walking 50k in April by Sophie’s Striders, with a 2km walk around the beautiful Crichton.”
