Screening success
NEARLY 200 young people had their hearts screened at an event in Dumfries last weekend.
The CRY charity set up shop at the Cairndale Hotel for a screening event funded by the DH9 Foundation, in memory of former Doonhamer David Hill, who died aged 30 from a cardiac arrest.
His family now fundraise to pay for screenings for other young people, with each heart test costing £68 and a full weekend needing £13,500. To date the family have raised over £75,000.
And they will have further events at Kirkcudbright Academy on June 14-15; and back in and Dumfries on September 13-14. Booking is now open and to register an interest visit www.testmyheart.org.uk
David’s dad Rodger Hill and his mum, Sharon Duncan, said: “We are delighted that so many young people were given the opportunity to be screened this weekend. We will continue to fundraise for more screenings and to press both the Scottish and UK governments to support a national screening programme, so that every young person has the option of having their heart screened.
“We extend our thanks to Matthew Wallace and The Cairndale Hotel and Spa for hosting us, and to the whole CRY screening team who delivered the event, their care and professionalism made an emotional weekend easier.”
