POLICE want to trace the driver of a car thought to have been travelling on the B7076 near Ecclefechan shortly before a serious road crash in which a man was injured.
Officers believe the motorist could have information that would help with their investigation into the incident early on Sunday October 22 in which football player Dean Watson, above, from Gretna was hurt.
At about 1.30 am that morning, the 24-year-old, who plays for Dalbeattie Star, was walking along the rural road when he was struck by a black Mitsubishi L200 pick up vehicle, which Police Scotland have confirmed was being driven by an off duty officer.
Dean was taken to hospital in Dumfries then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff describe his condition as critical but stable.
Extensive enquiries have led police to believe that a small light-coloured car, possibly white in colour, could have been travelling south on the B7076 just before the collision took place.
Explaining more, Sergeant Colin Ramage, from road policing, said yesterday: “There is no suggestion that the vehicle we are trying to trace was involved in the crash, however we believe the driver may have information which could assist with our investigation.
“I am appealing directly to the driver of the light-coloured car which was travelling south on the B7076 in the minutes before the victim was struck around 1.30am to please come forward.
“Even if you think you have no information of significance, it is still crucial that we speak to you, as even the slightest detail could be important.”
