Fireman wins bodybuilding title

A FIREFIGHTER swapped hosepipes for weights to help him win a prestigious bodybuilding competition last weekend.

Dumfries fireman David Old walked away with the Men’s Middleweight Division award at the UK Drug Free Bodybuilding Association (UKDFBA) Caledonian Classic Championships on Saturday.
The 37-year-old was up against seven other athletes from around Scotland and faced a judging panel of five people to take home the top accolade.
He also faced a lie detector test and a drug test to ensure he was free of all banned substances and eligible to win.
David trains five times a week, with most of these sessions in his home gym, supplemented with extra cardiovascular training in the gym at Dumfries Fire Station.
He also follows a strict eating regime year round to support his training, with the last four months before the contest seeing him reduce his daily calorie intake to eliminate bodyfat and increase his muscle definition for the contest.
David’s win earns him a spot on Team Scotland for the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation International Championships in October where he will face athletes from up to nine other nations including Ireland, Switzerland, Slovakia, the Faroe Islands and the USA.
