Tennis centre costs rise to over £2m

AN indoor tennis centre for Dumfries and Galloway could now cost over £2 million to build, according to a new report.

The document prepared for the council’s communities committee highlights the revised costs of the of a three court regional indoor tennis centre.

Tennis Scotland identified Dumfries and Galloway as a priority local authority area for an indoor court development. The initial cost of the project presented to committee members in December 2021 was £1.5 million, of which Dumfries and Galloway Council would contribute £250,000. Now, due to increases across the construction market the revised cost of the project is £2,013,488.

Tennis Scotland and Sportscotland have agreed to increase the level of funding available to the project by a further £342,325 in order to still deliver the project, but councillors are now being asked for an additional funding contribution of up to £221,163 as part of the 2023/24 budget.

Members are expected to discuss the changes to the project further at the next communities committee meeting on February 2.
