It comes after members of Lockerbie Community Council last week raised several concerns within the town, including overflowing bins, Bridge Street pavements covered in pigeon mess, the Ashgrove Terrace street sign hanging by a thread due to rotten wood and the state of the Lockerbie Disaster Memorial at Sherwood Crescent.
The local authority have held up their hands about the issues and say they are going to work very closely together with the town’s community council to ensure Lockerbie and the surrounding area is “looking its best”.
Bin usage will be monitored within the town and further afield and the council say they will “temporarily” increase bin emptying.
In addition, Bridge Street’s pavements will be power washed within the next week and benches will be cleaned.
And, the road sign has been removed and will be replaced in the near future, whilst the memorial will get a clean up too.
A council spokesman said: “The council apologises for any upset caused by the current issues which are currently being resolved.
“The community assets team is currently working in conjunction with the community council to resolve these.
“We will monitor bin usage both within the town and within the wider community and where required temporarily increase the emptying frequency.
“Bridge Street pavements will be power washed within the next week as will the cleaning of the benches and we will continue to monitor both in the coming weeks and months.
“The Ashgrove Terrace road sign has been temporarily removed until it can be permanently repaired.
“Discussions are ongoing with community council to refresh and replace the shrubbery around the war memorial as part of our winter works this year which will provide a longer term, more sustainable perennial bed which will be nice for people to visit and pay their respects.”
