Housing scheme gets council backing

MORE details have been shared on new housing proposals in Dumfries, submitted by Loreburn Housing Association.

The first project is College Mains Phase 2, College Road, and aims to provide a total of 33 homes built to Passivhaus energy standards.

Passivhaus is an independent organisation dedicated to delivering high standards of comfort whilst slashing energy use from buildings.

The mix of homes will include 20 extra care/supported housing units.

The council’s planning applications committee has already approved the application for planning in principle and investment at this site is estimated at £7.1 million.

The second plan is for Haley’s Yard, on Terregles Road, with the site being included on the council’s Vacant and Derelict Land Register.

The association’s proposal will seek to remediate the site and provide 22 new affordable homes, also to Passivhaus standards, as well as having an estimated investment in excess of £4.2 million.

Both locations are well placed for local services and access to active travel routes.

Chair of economy and resources committee Cllr Rob Davidson said: “Affordable, energy efficient homes provide the much needed security families require to work, learn and thrive.

“Providing suitable accommodation, free from overcrowding, gives children a safe space for homework and play.

“This significant investment also creates and sustains local employment opportunities, helping the region to retain working age people.

“While Dumfries continues to be an area of high demand, It’s good to see potential developments to meet housing needs across the region are currently being scoped.”
