A group of friends have teamed up to put together animal hampers to distribute in Annandale and Eskdale.
It was the idea of Jacqui Johnstone and is being co-ordinated by Angela Nisbet, of Crazy Ladies Animal Services, who has roped in husband John, of Phoenix Feeds, and another friend, Sharon Crellin.
Angela is hopeful they can reach all corners of the area and said: “We plan on helping all animals from pet hamsters, rabbits, budgies, to cats and dogs. We wouldn’t want to see anything go hungry.
“We are very aware with the climate that people that normally would be working can’t/ self employed etc and we believe that everyone is finding things hard at the moment.
“We have heard that a lot of people are struggling to feed their pets and sadly having to rehome them, so we decided to put our heads together and see if there was something that we could do to help. With a house full of pets ourselves, we understand how devastating it would be if we had to give them up due to falling on hard times.”
The trio are appealing for donations of food, bedding and toys, as well as cash to buy supplies.
She said: “Any feed donations would be amazing from rabbit food to dog food.
We currently have a drop off point in Lockerbie and one here at home with us, although we can arrange collections from anyone that wishes to donate. We also have a GoFundMe page in case anyone would like to make a donation.”
Animal fan Angela has three dogs, two cats, six horses, two donkeys, chickens, ducks and a tortoise at home, as well two more horses and goat in on livery. She also runs the Crazy Ladies small animal hotel and takes in dogs for holidays and day care.
