WITH temperatures dropping below zero, Dumfries and Galloway Council yesterday issued a 'don't sleep rough' message.

Officials are reminding anyone experiencing or at risk of homelessness: that emergency accommodation is available 24/7.

Cllr Andy McFarlane said: “With freezing conditions forecast, it’s vital that people know help is available. If you have nowhere to stay, emergency accommodation can be arranged with a simple call.

"Support is available round the clock, so don’t wait to get in touch and certainly don’t try to brave the weather.”

During business hours (9 am–5 pm), contact the housing and homelessness team on 0303 333 3001. You can also visit your local council office for face-to-face support. They can provide advice and arrange temporary accommodation.

Between 5 pm–9 am, call the same number, where social workers can arrange transport and emergency accommodation for the night.
