RESIDENTS in and around Sanquhar, Wanlockhead and Kirkconnel are being invited to view and share feedback on a newly proposed windfarm development. A series of community exhibitions are being held in the communities this week. Glasgow-based renewable energy company BayWa r.e. is developing proposals for the Glensalloch Windfarm. Early-stage plans indicate a site layout for 15 turbines, each up to 220m high, located on land 4.2km northeast of Sanquhar and about 3.2km west of Wanlockhead. Laura Fleming, senior renewables developer, said: “This is the beginning of a consultation process where local voices will help shape how the project progresses. “This is a project which we are working to deliver in collaboration with nearby communities. Taking on board feedback from residents is vital as we move towards the next stages of our work.” The BayWa r.e. team will be at each event so residents can meet them, ask questions and find out more about the next steps for the proposal. A scoping report for the project has recently been lodged with the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit, which will make the final decision on the proposal following the planning application process. More details on the project are available at www.glensalloch.co.uk.
