What’s going on with the roads?
ANSWERS are being sought about the decline in road conditions across Wigtownshire.
Mid Galloway and Wigtown West Cllr Jackie McCamon has written to head officials in the council’s economy and infrastructure department seeking an explanation.
It comes after she received a ‘significant influx of reports’ lately, regarding potholes and road surfaces in and around Newton Stewart and the Machars.
Cllr McCamon said: “I am savvy enough to know that during and particularly after winter, road defects are expected.
“However, it isn’t so much that. It is more the standard of fix they are given. It doesn’t appear to be lasting very long.
During my time as vice chair of economy and infrastructure, road conditions often dominated conversations. My understanding back then was that Dumfries and Galloway Council committed to striving for first time permanent repair. We appear to have gone back on that.”
She has asked for an update on materials used and confirmation if it’s just temporary repairs that are currently being carried out.
