Welcome to the team Lucy!
HELLO, my name is Lucy Farrell, I’m from Washington DC and a student at Syracuse University studying English and film.
This summer, I am incredibly excited to be interning at the Annandale Herald, and other DNG Media titles, through the Syracuse London programme.
Since I was young I’ve always had a passion for writing and reading, my mind always exploded with imagination and yearned to escape to my own sacred place in words. As a half Asian woman, growing up I felt a sense of longing and confusion with my own identity. Growing up between cultures gave me a unique lens and has led me to question my belonging and self expression. Reading and writing gave me that sense of safety and security I needed and helped me navigate through my thoughts and emotions. The books I read touched me, the words rooted themselves in my mind and grew to inspire my words on paper. Writing in college has been challenging yet rewarding with the creative freedom given to me and the opportunities to express different types of writing forms that’s helped my writing begin to flourish and broaden. From poetry and essays to screenwriting and journalism, I’ve enjoyed experimenting with a range of forms and voices.
Outside academics I would describe myself as an adventurous, creative and passionate person who’s excited to learn and gain new experiences within the writing community.
I’ve never worked with a writing company before or had any experience in a journalism environment so I’m eager to meet everyone and learn what it’s like to be fully ingrained in a work routine and environment. I am so excited to be a part of this group and to be given the opportunity to express my own voice to these stories.
