Walker in hill helicopter rescue

A WALKER was taken by helicopter from the summit of Criffel this week following an ankle injury.

Volunteers from the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team assisted the Scottish Ambulance Service to bring the walker to safety on Wednesday afternoon.

spokesman for the rescue outfit explained they were called upon to help by the Dumfries and Galloway Division of Police Scotland and 11 members responded, making their way to the casualty site with first aid and a stretcher.

And he said: “Rescue 199, a Search and Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick, also responded and arrived on scene at the same time as team members. The team and the helicopter winchman treated the casualty at the scene and prepared the casualty for winching into the helicopter.

“The walker had suffered a suspected broken ankle near the summit of the hill. The team then escorted the casualties husband from the hill and stood down.”

Following the incident, the team fully cleaned all equipment in preparation for next time it may be required.
