KEYLESS vehicle owners are being urged to remain vigilant, following a rise in thefts in Dumfries and Galloway.

Police put out an appeal yesterday asking owners locally to take precautions in order to protect their vehicles, after a string of thefts targeting Ford vehicles, in particular.

Officers said: “Thieves often target Ford vehicles, in particular Mk6 (2008–2017) Ford Fiestas and also high powered, super cars and we are asking car owners to stay one step ahead of criminals.

Review your security and take a few precautions to prevent this activity

“When you are at home, keep your car keys or fobs away from the car and don’t leave them near your doors or windows.

“Consider using a signal blocking pouch (aka a Faraday pouch) to block the transmission of the signal from the car key. These can be purchased online.

“Using a steering lock or pedal box can also be an effective deterrent and prevent your vehicle being stolen.

“If you have a garage, it is strongly recommended that you use it to secure your vehicle out of sight.

“Vehicle trackers and tracking devices are also a form of additional security and can assist in the prompt recovery of stolen vehicles.”

Any suspicious activity, can be reported to Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
