Vandal's fire raising spree

A FIRE raising vandal - caught on CCTV - went on an early morning crime spree this morning, setting fire to shop fronts and leaving disaster in his wake.

Officers in Dumfries are investigating the series of suspicious fires and vandalisms.

At 4.05 am, two overhead canopies at the Palmerston Café in Glasgow Street were reported on fire.

Just 15 minutes later a further report was received of a fire at the Polish Delicatessen shop in St Michaels Street.

Again, the canopy had been set on fire and again the fire was extinguished.

Then at 4.30 am, police were called to a disturbance outside Benvenuto Takeaway in Eastfield Road, where a male was seen banging on the windows of the premises.

Officers on the scene found that a window had been smashed, as had two windows in nearby parked vans.

It also appears that an attempt had been made to set a fire in one of the vehicles.
