Vaccine concerns dismissed

RUMOURS that Dumfries and Galloway had been asked to slow down with the fast moving vaccination programme have been quashed.

Dumfriesshire MSP Oliver Mundell flagged up the matter in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, saying: “I have had concerns raised with me that vaccine teams in Dumfries and Galloway have been asked to slow down to allow other areas to catch up.”

But First Minister Nicola Sturgeon dismissed it and said: “I am not aware of that.

“What possible interest do I or the government have in slowing down vaccination in one part of the country? It really does not make any sense.”

She added: “If there has been a slowing down it has been because supplies have dipped and the slowdown has happened across the whole UK. As that increases again from the middle of the month, the daily rate will increase as well.”
