Twynholm athletes have high hopes for GB spots
TWYNHOLM athletes Vicky Carson and Molly Maxwell recently returned from a high-level Team GB Women’s Bandy training camp in Sweden, where they trained alongside prospective national squad teammates ahead of this year’s World Championships. Both players are now hopeful for final selection, with confirmation expected in the coming weeks. The camp offered a rare opportunity for British players to train on full-length Swedish bandy ice given that the UK has no full-size rinks, allowing Vicky and Molly to further develop their skills in this fast, fluid and highly technical sport. Bandy – supported by the Great Britain Bandy Association – combines elements of football, field hockey and ice hockey, played on skates with a curved stick and the sport’s signature pink ball, played in a football pitch-sized rink. Both players began their ice hockey careers at Dumfries Ice Bowl’s Solway Ladies. Vicky has been widely recognised for her contributions at Solway Ladies, where she made a significant competitive impact. They both later progressed to the Caledonia Steel Queens, further strengthening their competitive experience and exposure to high-performance women’s ice hockey. While the camp does not guarantee final selection, both Vicky and Molly have impressed coaches and remain optimistic about securing a place in the Team GB squad.
