A DUMFRIESSHIRE castle has set the scene for the highly anticipated return of a popular TV period drama.

Drumlanrig Castle has reprised its role in season two of The Buccaneers on Apple TV after being used once again as one of the stunning filming locations for the captivating drama.

Set in the 1870s, the show follows the lives of the ‘Buccaneers’, five ambitious young women and daughters of America’s new wealthy families.

The women are invited to London in the midst of debutante season in the hopes of securing husbands and titles, but their eccentric and extroverted nature contrasts with English high society and centuries of tradition as they navigate cultural clashes and strict social codes while dealing with interpersonal relationships and potential suitors.

The castle near Thornhill was filmed in part as the fictional,Tintagel Castle, home to the Duke of Tintagel in the show, with scenes filmed both inside the castle and throughout the beautiful gardens.

Posting on Facebook, a Drumlanrig spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to once again play a starring role as a filming location for series two of Apple TV’s The Buccaneers.

“From intimate interiors to sweeping gardens - and of course, the iconic main drive and oval lawn - the Castle shines on screen, bringing all the glamour, intrigue, and drama of the series to life.”
