Town was ‘manic’ due to urgent road repairs
A MAJOR road in Lockerbie had to be closed due to urgent repair works this week.
Part of the High Street was cordoned off late on Monday night. This was due a BT cover having to be urgently repaired.
Work too place on Wednesday and the closure was lifted yesterday afternoon.
However, traffic was in the town was “manic” according to a fed-up resident.
He said: “It was hectic on the roads in Lockerbie this week due to the closure. I don’t think it was signposted properly either. I saw several vehicles having to turn away and go up Union Street. I saw a lot of cars also go down the wrong way of a one-way street.”
Yesterday, a council spokesman said: “Urgent works have been required to repair a BT cover on the carriageway outside No.19 High Street, Lockerbie.
“A closure was put in place late on Monday night and the works were carried out yesterday.
“The closure is being lifted this afternoon now that repairs have been completed.”
Meanwhile, further down the High Street there is a road closure for the installation of traffic signal loops.
