THE queen has been crowned, the principals are sashed and Lockerbie is one step closer to Gala and Riding of the Marches day 2025. While last weekend was all about ceremony and tradition with the crowning, followed by the kirkin’ on Sunday morning, this weekend it’s about partying! The Cornet’s Ball takes place at the new venue of the ice rink on Saturday night — and then it’s full steam ahead for gala week. The final rideout of the season, the Cornet’s route, will take place on Monday night, June 9, leaving the town’s market at 6.30 pm. Also next week, there’s six-a-side football, a penalty kicks contest, pet show and golf tournament too in the run up to the big day.

Meanwhile, weather watchers are already starting to look ahead and check the forecast for Saturday June 14, with hopes of a return of the sunshine.
