Town board preparing for exciting chapter
DUMFRIES Town Board has said its “steadily preparing” for the next exciting chapter.
The group – who are developing and delivering a long-term plan for the town – say funding has been secured, approved and scheduled for their ideas.
A spokesman said: “We’re currently in a holding pattern as we await some final updated guidance and key documents from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
“These are needed before we can revise and relaunch our Town Plan following changes at national level — but rest assured, we’re poised and ready to move the moment we get the green light.
“The good news is that the funding has been secured, approved and scheduled for release — that gives us confidence and momentum.
“While the early stages involve smaller, strategic funding blocks (to get the right policies and processes in place), this is a really smart approach.
“It ensures every pound is spent with purpose and that Dumfries gets the very best from this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
“We’ve already met the initial requirements and are due to receive our first round of funds this month. Even more exciting, we’re managing our entire programme in-house — making us one of the few Town Boards in Scotland to do so.
“This means more funding goes directly into our community, rather than being absorbed by consultants.”
The board say they will begin sharing news on their first community projects which will reflect the pride, energy and passion of the people of Dumfries.
A spokesman added: “Once we’ve moved into The Hub, please feel free to drop in, say hello, and share your voice. Our door is always open, and your ideas are what drive us forward. Together, we’ll continue to make Dumfries shine.
