Tour of Britain zooms through region

CYCLING stars sped through Annandale and Eskdale this morning as part of the Aviva Tour of Britain.

Leading names such as Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish were among the pack of athletes contesting British Cycling’s premier road cycling event as it passed through Gretna, Canonbie and Newcastleton.

Keen cycling fans gathered at the border crossing at Gretna around lunchtime as the world’s best teams and riders gave it their all during the 216km stage from Cockermouth to Floors Castle, Kelso.
