Thumbs up for burgh garden efforts
MEMBERS of the DG Climate Hub were impressed with a community garden in Lochmaben.
They toured the site with Carys Mainsprize, from the Crichton Carbon Centre (CCC), who is also the chair for the Lochmaben Community Garden.
Carys did a tour and explained all the vegetables and herbs being grown in the garden.
The burgh garden has successfully bid for a second grant from the D&G Climate Hub Seed Fund. That money will be put to good use hosting various ‘learning’ events with topics around food growing, preserving; growing winter vegetables, as well as a planned garden event during Scotland Climate Week, which runs September 29 to October 5.
A hub spokesperson praised the work going on in Lochmaben and said: “It was amazing to see how a redundant expanse of tarmac has been repurposed into a thriving garden of well-tended raised beds, including a wheelchair friendly bed.”
