Thistle hit eight on the road

LOCHAR Thistle enjoyed a convincing 8-0 league win away to Wigtown and Bladnoch on Saturday.

The deadlock at Newton Stewart’s Blairmount Park was broken on 20 minutes when Robbie Ferguson rifled home into bottom corner from 18 yards.

With the half time whistle approaching, Hugh Cameron broke from the defence into the midfield before slipping in Scott Milligan who added a second.

Lochar started the second half on the front foot and Milligan expertly lobbed the keeper from 22 yards.

Milligan turned provider on 58 minutes when his pass through ball found Marcus Zygadlo who took a touch and fired home for Thistle’s fourth of the afternoon.

Soon after, the same man linked up with Milligan again, with a cross from the right being slid home at the back post to give Lochar a five goal advantage.

Lochar kept their foot on the gas and added a further three goals. On 75 minutes David Adams collected the ball some 30 yards from goal and his left foot effort flew over the keeper.

On 84 minutes Finlay Kennedy knocked the ball past the on-rushing ‘keeper.

And the final goal of the game came from Craig Adamson who saw the keeper off his line and lobbed the ball into the top corner.

Over in Kirkcudbright, Abbey Vale came from behind to defeat St Cuthbert Wanderers 2-1.

Saints took the lead just before the break, but they scored an unfortunate own goal, following a scramble in the area, early in the second half which drew the teams level.

The New Abbey side then completed the turnaround straight after the restart. Braden Bruce was on hand to head home after Jerzy Grezbieniak headed the ball back across goal.
