BARBERING reached new heights on Wednesday for a Lockerbie salon owner. Gary Lewis once again pulled on his walking boots to give a customer a haircut with a view at the top of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. Teacher Peter Sanders, from Hoddom Primary, was in the chair, 822 feet up, for the most memorable trim of his life. And the pair’s hilly efforts raised £600 for classroom essentials. Gary said: “What a wonderful day! I am glad the weather was on our side. What a spectacular view from Arthur’s Seat, one of the best barbershop views in Scotland! “It was absolutely brilliant, I loved every minute of it. “We raised just over £600 for schools, and it’s a great cause because it’s close to home.” Describing more about what it was like, he added: “The whole city unfolded beneath me, the castle in the distance. With the wind in the air, I cut hair on that breathtaking cliff, sharing the view and the moment with my dear friend Peter. “And in that moment, I felt the spirit of Scotland its beauty, its pride, and its endless horizon.”

Gary and Peter wish to thank W Glendinning & Son of Annan for kitting them out in style with kilts, and Nikola Roxburgh Photography who accompanied them to document the challenge. Also, the team at Irn-Bru who supplied drinks to keep them fuelled and supported the cause. In collaboration with Irn-Bru, Gary will also be offering his customers a free drink with every haircut next week. The Edinburgh escapade followed on from a previous jaunt up Criffel to cut hair in aid of a Turkey earthquake appeal. Now, Gary’s thoughts are already turning to making it a hattrick - with the possibility of a more far flung destination next time.
