Testing time for region

FOUR asymptomatic community testing sites opened in the region yesterday.

And between them they will be able to carry out 10,000 tests a week for coronavirus.

Annan Rugby Social Club is the mass testing hub for Annandale and Eskdale; the Loreburn Hall is being used for Dumfries residents; the Ryan Centre caters for Stranraer; and the Carlingwark Outdoor Centre at Castle Douglas is the fourth spot.

They will be open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm with results available within 45 minutes of a test.

And they will be staffed by NHS, council staff and by volunteers.

In addition, four mobile testing units will tour the region, to service smaller communities and to provide targeted support in the event of a localised outbreak.

The programme has been set up by council officials, the NHS, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and military partners.
