WHAT began as a modest vision shared by eight determined individuals has grown into a life-saving mission spanning over two million miles.

This month, Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes (DGBB) proudly celebrated its tenth anniversary, marking a decade of extraordinary volunteer service and community spirit.

To commemorate the journey, the charity hosted a glittering anniversary gala at the Cairndale Hotel. The event brought together volunteers, NHS staff, supporters, and sponsors for an evening of celebration and gratitude.

Founded in 2014 and officially launched on June 1 2015, DGBB has evolved into a crucial support system for the NHS and local patients.

It has a team of around 150 dedicated volunteers, a fleet of 17 motorcycles and nine cars, and the focus and aim is on delivering urgent medical supplies free of charge.

In fact, DGBB has completed more than 13,500 urgent runs across the region since its inception.

Chairman David Hook said: “Each journey we make isn’t just a delivery — it’s a lifeline.

“Behind every mile is a story of compassion, urgency, and dedication.”

And bosses at NHS Dumfries and Galloway are thrilled and grateful for everything the blood bikes team has done in the last decade.

Chief executive Julie White said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to this amazing organisation for all that they do for NHS Dumfries and Galloway and the thousands of patients lives they make a difference to every year.

“The service they provide is invaluable, and their hard work and commitment continues to be remarkable ten years on from when they first began operations.”
