TAXI drivers in Dumfries have set up a new group to improve passengers’ experiences in the town.

The Dumfries Taxi Community page on Facebook is in response to mounting complaints about bad experiences.

They hope it will improve the situation and give passengers a place to report issues and help resolve them.

In a launch statement, the founders said: “Our group is run by your very own local taxi drivers who want to ensure our customers are safe and happy without any issues.

“In order for things to change we need to hear from the public too regarding issues they may have, from illegal taxis to over pricing and even abuse or arrogance from a driver.

“Now you have someone to contact and now you have the chance to actually have something done. Help us to help you and ensure your taxis around Dumfries are safe.”

In addition, they have shared a few tips for customers, including asking to see the drivers’ badge, and taking down the details of the car’s number plate and taxi plate on the rear.

Hundreds of people are already following the page and have been giving feedback. The biggest issues so far are about a lack of taxis, along with frustrations at inexact arrival estimates.
