Support service receives top mark from inspectors
A HOUSING support service – which helps people with mental health needs and learning disabilities living in their own home – has received the highest possible mark following an inspection.
Beyond Limits (Dumfries and Galloway) – based in Lochmaben – earned an ‘excellent’ (six points) grade for how it supports people’s wellbeing from the Care Inspectorate. The staff team was also marked as ‘very good’ (five points).
Officers noted that at the time of the inspection, ten people were receiving support in different locations including Lochmaben, Lockerbie and surrounding areas of Dumfries and Galloway.
Key messages from the graders included that there was strong collaboration between the service, individuals receiving support, their families and the Health and Social Care Partnership.
People benefitted from being supported by small, consistent staff teams who understood their specific needs well.
Staff at all levels demonstrated strong values including promoting independence, encouraging participation from all relevant parties, and delivering care that upheld dignity and supported improved health and wellbeing outcomes.
Individuals were actively involved in decisions about their care, contributing to a sense of ownership and empowerment. As a result, people experienced excellent outcomes with care and support that was responsive, respectful, and enabling.
The report read: “The service demonstrated a strong, proactive approach to promoting health and wellbeing, underpinned by a deep understanding and holistic assessment of each individual’s needs and aspirations.
“Support was tailored and flexible, enabling people to live safely and independently in their own homes.
“Staff demonstrated a clear enabling attitude, supporting individuals to build skills, make meaningful community connections, and lead fulfilling lives.
“People were actively involved in shaping their support, including choosing their staff teams and adjusting support levels in response to changing needs.
“Staff used technology creatively to promote independence, reduce risks and support people in making choices.
“This person-centred approach ensured that care was responsive, respectful, and empowering.
“The service demonstrated a strong commitment to health promotion.”
