A packed summer of play, fun and learning is in store for young people across the region as the council’s Youth Work Service launches an exciting programme of free activities – co-designed with young people themselves. This year’s Summer Programme launches on Wednesday and includes a wide variety of local events, trips, drop-ins and skills-based groups designed to help young people (aged 10 to 17 years) stay active, build confidence, and try something new during the school holidays. Highlights include:

  • Local Trips, Events, Drop-ins, and Skills Groups – designed with young people, offering meaningful opportunities to have fun and learn close to home.
  • Camp DG 2025 – an exciting camping experience for young people packed with outdoor activities, team-building challenges and opportunities to meet new people.
  • The Summer Mix – a series of free taster sessions and masterclasses in everything from magic and sport to wellbeing and street food cookery.
  • Summer Roadshows – delivered in partnership with local services and groups, bringing pop-up activities right into the heart of communities across D&G.
  • Listen2Us – activities and trips for care-experienced young people to try new things, gain new experiences and learn new skills
  • Young Women’s Network – activities and workshops for young women and girls, with a focus on self-confidence and empowerment
The programme has been shaped in partnership with young people to ensure it reflects their interests and needs. All the sessions are free, and all aim to provide a positive and inclusive experience for young people in Dumfries and Galloway. Councillor Tracey Little said: “We are delighted to support such a vibrant and varied summer programme for young people. It’s been designed with their voices at the centre, and it offers opportunities not only for fun and play but also for upskilling, learning and expanding young people’s experiences. We’re proud of the work that’s gone into making this happen.” Youth Work D&G’s Summer Holiday Programme is open to all young people in the region, with specific sessions for Junior Youth Work (P6 and 7) and Seniors (12 to 17 & 18+).
