Students get financial support
FIVE university students were given financial support from Sanquhar Common Good Fund last year. They were among ten applicants who received a share of £2000 dished out from the community cashpot. The Royal Burgh of Sanquhar and District Community Council is responsible for the disbursement of a micro grant fund of £2000 per year, for disbursement to local groups and individuals. A report, due to be tabled at Sanquhar Common Good Fund committee next Tuesday, states: “The availability of the fund was advertised locally and applications were considered at the community council meetings. “During 2024/25 The Royal Burgh of Sanquhar Community Council disbursed funding totalling £2000 to ten local projects/individuals.” Five students were given £200 each towards costs/travel expenses to Glasgow or Ayr University, while another individual was given £200 towards travel expenses for a hospital placement in Ayr. Sanquhar & District Cancer Support Group was granted £200 to cover the costs of room hire, while The Town of Sanquhar Facebook Page was handed the same amount for website/running costs. Aura Hand Crafted Design bought a printer to progress their design business, while Tiny Tunies Toddler Group members used their £200 to buy toys and pay running costs.
