Stone tribute

A MEMORIAL stone was unveiled in Dock Park on Saturday ahead of this year’s Merchant Navy Day. The new tribute was initiated by the Dumfries and Galloway branch of the Merchant Navy Association, with support from the council, The People’s Project, and local partners. It commemorates the 80,000+ merchant seafarers who lost their lives in conflict, many with no grave but the sea.

In addition, it celebrates the ongoing contribution of the Merchant Navy to the UK economy and daily life. Pictured is Lord-Lieutenant Fiona Armstrong at the unveiling ceremony with veterans and dignitaries.
