A RAILWAY historian is appealing for help to track down a photo of the first train that left Sanquhar Station when it reopened in June 1994. Douglas McNaught, who was born and raised in Sanquhar and now lives in Ayrshire, has written an article for Steam Days magazine about Sanquhar's railways. It will appear next year and he's desperately trying to find a photo to go with it. He explained: "I have no photos of this highly important occasion on June 27 1994. Does anyone have a photograph of publishable quality of that first train? The train was travelling to Carlisle and displayed a commemorative headboard which carried the wrong date! "My preference is for a photo taken from the opposite platforms and including a good number of the assembled throng, but these are not essential requirements. Either black and white or colour would be acceptable." Anyone who can help is asked to text him on 07530 135835 in the first instance.
