A SPECIAL service to celebration the restoration of the Covenanters Monument near Irongray will be held next Sunday. The monument, which sits on Skeoch Hill, has been undergoing maintenance due to deterioration and weather damage. It was erected in 1872 to commemorate a major conventicle of the Covenanters held there in 1678. The stones on which the communion was laid out are still there. The Irongray Community Trust has taken on the job of managing the repair and restoration of the monument, beginning on Monday 8 September. Once complete a service led by Reverend Gary Peacock, minister of Irongray Parish Church, will be held at the monument to celebrate the restoration and to re-dedicate the monument. All are welcome to attend the service, on Sunday September 14 at 3 pm.
