Special delivery for hospital babies
STAFF at the neonatal unit at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary were delighted to receive a donation of handmade blankets for babies in their care - from local craft group The Solway Quilters.
Members of the group created unique designs for each of the 32 blankets.
And the babies who first use the blankets will get to take them home.
Quilter Christiane Shrimpton, who’s also a former member of staff at NHS Dumfries and Galloway, said: “It was a pleasure for us to go in to the unit as it is such a special place and with wonderful staff there caring for such tiny babies.
“As a group we like working towards something for the community, that could be for a commemoration or celebration, or an individual having a difficult time. We are so happy the blankets have been so well received.”
Senior charge nurse Becky McKnight said: “This is a truly lovely donation, made even more special by each blanket having its own unique design. It means so much when people take the time to visit the unit with a gift like this. The neonatal unit is a very special place, but not many people know much about unless they’ve experienced having a baby born prematurely.
“For parents, knowing that someone is thinking of them during an incredibly worrying and emotional time brings real comfort.
“It also means a great deal to our staff. Knowing that people value the care we provide for these tiny babies is truly uplifting.”
