Society opens spring show
OVER 30 artists are showing work at Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society’s spring exhibition. It opened last weekend at the Harbour Cottage Gallery in Kirkcudbright and runs daily until April 11. And it features pieces from the society’s past president Alexander Robb, who is showing oil paintings; former chair Sheena McCurrach is exhibiting mixed media; another former chair, John Fairgrieve, is showing sculpture; while respected print maker Joshua Miles is exhibiting new reduction lino cuts.
In addition, some members have also entered photographic works. DAGFAS chair Paul O’Keefe said: “We’ve a number of members who primarily use the photographic medium or use photography in their mixed media works. So, it’s natural now for us to make sure they feature within our fine arts exhibitions.” One of those is photographic artist Alistair Hamilton, who said: “I am so pleased to be taking part in a DAGFAS exhibition for the first time as it begins showing artistic work created using traditional or digital photographic techniques. “The society is looking for original works made with the intention of creating an artistic effect, in contrast to photography which is photojournalism, reportage, fashion or straightforward portraiture,” Opening hours are 10.30 am-4.30 pm and entry is free.
