So much to see at the show
EASTERBROOK Hall was a site of much activity at the weekend when members of the SWI institutes across Dumfriesshire put on a show.
There were over 800 entries for 85 classes that included floral art, baking, cooking and many types of craft.
There were also competitive displays for four “team tests” where teams of members of an institute had three competitions and a team from each group had one competition. This allowed for interpretation and presentation to be judged as well as the individual items under the titles of “Summer is Coming”, “Mellow Yellow”, “New Arrival” and “Let’s Party”.
Judging took place on Saturday afternoon and the public attended on Sunday, also enjoying a craft fayre.

A range of special guests also dropped in, including seven past presidents, several presidents of surrounding federations, while guest of honour was national SWI president Mary Burney. She presented the many trophies to the delighted winners.
Federation president Mima Telfer gave special thanks to the show secretaries Jane Hogg and Judy Brierly for their hard work to keep things right and show treasurer Jean Muir for dealing with the finance. Thanks were also expressed to those who supported all fundraising efforts and to the Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Company for the grant towards paying for the hire of the venue.
Mima’s final task was handing over a pile of hand knitted beanie hats to Claire Drummond, from the oncology unit at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, who assured everyone that they will be used and are very much appreciated.
There were also some sewn shoe bags donated to Sanquhar Primary School.
It was described as ‘a successful and happy show’.
