Six stones of success

A FAMILY from the region have a spring in their steps after losing nearly ten stone in weight between them.

It all started when mum Lara Baird realised her weight was causing some health issues. And after returning from a holiday to Italy last summer with swollen ankles, she knew something had to change.

Lara, 42, who lives in Kirkcudbright, said: “I had been overweight most of my life and it was like something just clicked and I knew I had to do something.”

Since joining Weight Watchers, she has gone on to lose over six stone, and has dropped five dress sizes as a result – with her goal weight in sight. And she has a newfound and renewed energy for life that includes walking, attending Metafit classes, going swimming, running – and has even bought a treadmill so she can run even on a rainy days.

NHS secretary Lara loves her new healthy lifestyle and feels great in her new clothes. She said: “I hated exercise before Weight Watchers and would never had dreamed of enjoying any part of it and would find any excuse to avoid it. Now, I get agitated if I don’t do at least 15,000 steps per day.”

Her relationship with food has changed too, she explained: “I have learnt to make healthier choices when it comes to food. I feel like I am living again, rather than just existing.”

And she’s been supported every step of the way by her husband and daughter, who have joined in and lost three and one stone respectively. Lara said: “Our lives have changed greatly and we feel better than ever before, enjoying family walks in the countryside whenever possible.”
