Sisters set to hit the stage
HEAVENLY music will echo through the Theatre Royal next month when Dumfries Musical Theatre Company take to the stage in the feel-good musical comedy, Sister Act. Based on the 1992 smash hit film of the same name, Sister Act follows wise-cracking nightclub singer, Deloris van Cartier, portrayed by Erin Watt, as she is placed in protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder committed by her gangster boyfriend, Curtis Jackson played by Roy Stairmand. Disguised as a nun, Deloris finds herself at odds with stern Mother Superior portrayed by Joyce Reekie and develops an unlikely friendship with the gaggle of characterful nuns. There’s young and shy Sister Mary Robert played by Star Murdy, Lauren Grantham in the role of joyful Sister Mary Patrick alongside Sharron Harper as eccentric choir mistress, Sister Mary Lazarus. In the convent, Deloris reluctantly helps revitalise the tuneless choir with her singing talent, and discovers a sense of community and sisterhood.
