Silver anniversary for cinema

ANNAN’s Lonsdale cinema celebrated its 25th anniversary this week. The two screens on Moat Road opened on November 25 1999.

Owner Alan Towers recalls the first film shown at the newly refurbished cinema was Disney’s Tarzan and that his first customers were three children who were more excited for the film than the newly refurbished two screen cinema. He said: “I remember it very clearly, I was stood behind the counter and they ran into the screen one like nothing was different. Before then this whole area was the front stalls and backstage for the bingo hall.

“25 years on, and we have now transformed the bingo hall into our beloved screen three that hosts many live events and parties throughout the year.

“Here’s to the next 25.”
