Shortbread festival to crown area’s best bakers
ARE you renowned for your homemade shortbread?
Then get along to Gretna Green next month for the first ever shortbread festival.
It will take place at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop on Saturday October 4, bringing people together to celebrate Scotland’s best-loved biscuit.
And bakers from across the region are being invited to take part, show off their skills, and compete to be crowned best shortbread baker.
There are three categories and it’s free to enter, either by registering in advance or on the day.
It will kick off with the young bakers at 10 am, featuring 7-11 year olds; next up, at 12.30 pm, will be the home bakers; and at 3 pm it will be the turn of local bakeries to show off their wares.
There is also a full day of entertainment lined up, including live music and cultural performances, kids’ biscuit icing and colouring; and whisky tastings.
The organisers hope it will be a celebration of Scotland’s iconic treat and a day full of delicious fun, local flavour, and competitive spirit.
Spokesperson Michelle Henry said: “This festival is more than just a celebration of shortbread, it’s a celebration of tradition and the warmth of Scottish hospitality that makes sharing food together so special.”
The Shortbread Festival is open to all, from seasoned shortbread fans to those tasting it for the first time.
Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.
